Sprint and Openwave Help Developers Transcend Individual Operating Systems
by Vikki Herrera, Director, Corporate Marketing
Great news crossed the wire today: Sprint chose Openwave’s Integra technology to power their Browser-VAS Ecosystem, a new platform for developing apps and value-added services that will run directly in the browser.
The single biggest challenge facing app developers is fragmentation in the OS/application development environment. Even within the same operating system, there may be multiple versions as platforms continue to evolve. Add to the mix the growing variety of hardware form factors and capabilities – from smartphones to new entrants like tablets – and it is getting tough to ensure that apps will port from one to another.
Until now, no ecosystem has been available to deploy enhanced services through the browser. Sprint’s partnership with Openwave is changing that, and delivering a revolutionary opportunity for developers to create apps that will execute in the browser, transcending individual platforms and form factors.
For over a decade, Openwave’s software solutions have helped operators bring the best mobile internet experience to their users. The launch of Sprint’s Browser-VAS Ecosystem is our latest innovation to that end. Developers can now create applications that can be executed in the browser, within the Sprint 3G network or in the cloud, to ultimately provide new and innovative applications and services for mobile subscribers.
