Openwave Licenses Wireless Patents to Mobixell/724 Solutions

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - October 18, 2010 --

Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), a global software innovator delivering context-aware mediation and messaging solutions, today announced that it has licensed certain patents to Mobixell/724 Solutions Inc.

On July 31, 2009, Openwave Systems Inc. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against 724 Solutions (US) Inc. and 724 Solutions Software Inc. (collectively “724 Solutions”) in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California to protect its IP rights. In its complaint, Openwave alleged that 724 Solutions had infringed several of Openwave’s networking and communications patents. Openwave sought an unspecified amount of damages as well as injunctive relief against 724 Solutions to prevent the further sale of infringing products in the United States. 724 Solutions was then acquired by Mobixell in January 2010. The details of the agreement between the parties remain confidential.

“Since its inception in 1994, Openwave and its predecessor companies have invested in and protected our innovative technology that pioneered the mobile internet and today mediates and adds value to mobile internet access for operators around the world,” said Ken Denman, CEO, Openwave. “Going forward, Openwave will continue to invest in developing our industry leading technology, will look to collaborate with others to bring innovations to market, and will continue to protect our intellectual property.”

Openwave and the Openwave logo are trademarks of Openwave Systems Inc. All other trademarks are the properties of their respective owners.
