SNOWSHORE NETWORKS AND OPENWAVE PARTNER TO DRIVE CONVERGED BROADBAND MESSAGING

SnowShore's Media Servers to Support Openwave's Broadband Messaging Products; Solution Brings New Levels of Scalability and Performance To IP Voice Messaging Offerings

CHELMSFORD, Mass. and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - December 10, 2002 -- SnowShore, innovators in IP enhanced communications infrastructure, and Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that the companies plan to collaborate to enable SnowShore’s media servers to power Openwave’s voice messaging software. This collaboration will make it possible for broadband voice and data service providers to deliver valuable messaging services by extending Openwave’s proven messaging platform for email, voicemail and multimedia, which is deployed in large-scale carrier networks.

“Broadband technologies are central to the network infrastructure investments that Openwave carrier customers are making today—whether their core business is wireline or wireless,” noted John Yuzdepski, vice president and general manager of Messaging Products at Openwave. “The applications that these technologies enable range from traditional voicemail to new voice and data service bundles that cross subscriber segments. SnowShore’s media server advantages are its scalability, flexibility, breadth of protocol support for VXML, SIP and MGCP-based services, and wire speed processing performance. Together, Openwave and SnowShore will enable operators to deliver valuable voice messaging services over IP.”

“The Openwave/SnowShore solution will offer broadband carriers clear competitive advantages over competing communication technologies by delivering compelling voice/data services across a single, flexible, highly scalable platform,” said SnowShore chief executive officer, Joel Hughes. “This collaboration enables broadband operators and their subscribers to realize the benefits of IP, giving new profit potential to service providers and lower cost, higher value communications services to end users.”

As part of the collaboration, the companies intend to join each other’s partner programs and engage in joint sales opportunities. Currently, the Openwave-SnowShore solution is in trials with several network service providers in North America.
