  JOSHUA PACE NAMED CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER OF OPENWAVE
  

  REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - July 28, 2004 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that Joshua Pace has been promoted to chief financial officer. In his new role, Pace will be responsible for all financial functions of the company, including financial planning, accounting, treasury and investor relations.

Pace will report to Don Listwin, president and CEO. He has served in his most recent role of chief accounting officer since early 2003 and was vice president of finance since early 2001.

"This promotion formalizes Josh's role at the company and positions him to continue leading the financial side of the business as we enter the growth phase of the market," said Don Listwin, president and CEO, Openwave.

Prior to Openwave, Pace held several finance positions, including senior vice president and CFO of M2Networx, vice president of finance at Covad Communications and executive director of finance at US West Communications.
