  OPENWAVE ENABLES VIRGIN MOBILE USA TO DELIVER INTUITIVE USER EXPERIENCE FOR GAMES, MUSIC AND PICTURE MESSAGING
  

  Personalized And Intuitive User Experience Encourages Virgin Mobile Customers To Take Their Handsets Beyond Talking And Texting
 
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2004 - October 26, 2004 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry today, announced that Virgin Mobile USA is leveraging multiple Openwave products to deliver mobile data services that offer an easy and entertaining experience for the youth market.

Customers using Virgin Mobile's recently launched Flasher V7 camera phone by Audiovox can take and send pictures, browse for information and rich content, and download games, music and other content - all via the single VirginXL interface on their phone.

"Openwave enables us to offer our subscribers a more personalized and intuitive user experience, which brings our brand to life - and empowers our customers to use their phones for more than just talking and texting," said Mike Parks, chief information officer of Virgin Mobile USA. "By using Openwave's client to server software, we are able to deliver more innovative services today as well as build for the future."

Openwave's commitment to helping perfect the user experience will enable Virgin Mobile to increase usage and ultimately the revenue from the services on the Flasher V7 and future 3G-enabled handsets. The Flasher V7 leverages the Openwave Browser and Messaging Client as well Openwave's server-based software products such as Openwave Download Manager, Openwave Mobile Access Gateway and Openwave Multimedia Messaging Service Center.
