  OPENWAVE ANNOUNCES INTEROPERABILITY OF ITS MULTIMEDIA MESSAGING TECHNOLOGY WITH NORTEL'S CDMA WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE
 

  Enables Nortel customers to quickly deploy revenue driving next generation messaging services
 
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - May 17, 2005 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), a leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that its Multimedia Messaging Services Center (MMSC) version 3.0.1 has achieved interoperability approval from Nortel. Compatibility approval was achieved using CDMA infrastructure equipment located in the Nortel Wireless Interoperability Lab in Richardson, Texas. The MMSC is approved for compatibility with Nortel's Mobile Telephone Exchange (MTX) 12.
