  TELEFÓNICA MÓVILES ESPAÑA SELECTS OPENWAVE MESSAGING SUITE TO OFFER CONSUMER AND CORPORATE CUSTOMERS A SINGLE INBOX FOR ALL MESSAGING SERVICES

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - July 13, 2005 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that Telefónica Móviles España, one of the world's leading mobile telecommunications companies, has selected Openwave's unique IP Integrated Messaging Infrastructure to deliver next generation communication and messaging services to its customers. Movistar subscribers will be able to access personal content whether it is stored in the office, at home or on a mobile device, based on Openwave's carrier-class, "all-IP" Messaging MX platform. The Openwave Messaging Infrastructure will make access to messages as easy as making a phone call; a factor Telefónica Móviles considers key for service adoption and enabling new communication channels for Movistar users.

By selecting Openwave's integrated messaging platform, Telefónica Móviles will be able to launch new communication services such as "always on" Email, allowing users to receive emails to their current mobile devices, as they would to their PC, and previously only available on sophisticated, expensive mobile devices. In addition, Telefónica Móviles will mobilize a variety of email accounts being offered by ISPs as well as enterprise e-mail accounts, allowing end-users to have their preferred e-mail account in their phones without changing their selected e-mail provider.

Openwave's proven expertise in providing carrier-class messaging platforms is helping Telefónica Móviles establish a new Movistar interface that will simplify the communication experience and also offer the end-user high storage capabilities to automatically store any kind of message and content, including MMS, SMS, E-mails, Voice mails, audio, pictures and videos.
