  ONETEL LOOKS TO THE FUTURE WITH OPENWAVE IP VOICEMAIL
  

  Leading UK Landline, Mobile and Broadband Provider To Benefit From Scalable Platform For Voicemail and Future Integrated Messaging Services
 
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - August 16, 2005 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that Onetel, one of the UK's leading communications companies, has selected Openwave's voice messaging solution as its new IP-based next generation voicemail system.

By implementing Openwave's voice messaging solution for all existing and future voicemail subscribers, Onetel will be able to launch quickly a range of future integrated voice, video and data services to its landline, mobile and broadband customers. Onetel will also benefit from a proven, standards-based service platform that will scale comfortably to meet the company's rapid ongoing subscriber growth.

Openwave's voice messaging solution provides fixed and mobile operators with next generation messaging based on IP, SIP and VoiceXML, that delivers reliability, simple service evolution and reduced cost of ownership compared to other legacy solutions. Based on Openwave's flexible and highly scalable Mx Messaging Platform, it also enables operators to deploy a range of advanced next generation services such as video voicemail on the same system, as markets develop.
