  OPENWAVE'S DAVID PETERSCHMIDT JOINS PRESTIGIOUS CTIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
  

  Industry Leaders and Visionaries Invite Peterschmidt's Industry Experience and Openwave's Expertise
 
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - September 29, 2005 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced President and CEO David Peterschmidt's election to the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) board of directors. As one of the early innovators in mobile data and messaging, and with over a billion handsets shipped across the world, Openwave will support the CTIA as it continues to play an instrumental role in expanding the wireless frontier.

Peterschmidt has been chosen to represent the vendor category on the board of directors, a testimony to his wealth of industry knowledge and Openwave's proven expertise and global experience in the telecommunications industry.

Peterschmidt joins CTIA board members including Motorola's Tim Cawley, Sprint Nextel's Len J. Lauer, T-Mobile's Robert Dotson and other industry heavyweights.
