  OPENWAVE SYSTEMS INC. RECEIVES FROST & SULLIVAN 2006 PRODUCT LINE STRATEGY AWARD FOR ITS ADAPTIVE MESSAGING SOLUTION [Partner Release]
 

  LOS ANGELES, CTIA IT & Entertainment - September 12, 2006 -- Frost & Sullivan confers the 2006 Product Line Strategy Award on Openwave Systems Inc., (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, for having demonstrated its ability to advance products with more innovative capabilities than its competitors and for being the most aggressive vendor for feature-rich real-time messaging solutions.

"In the past, carriers have faced significant barriers in messaging applications, with client devices unable to support advanced features. This scenario is set to change, with the availability of Openwave's Adaptive Messaging solution, wherein the intelligence lies within the network and client devices, rather than being imposed on the end user," notes Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Luke Thomas. "This adaptive messaging approach will enable carriers to garner additional revenues and increase subscriber loyalty and carriers such as O2 and TMN have already embraced Openwave's solution."

With Openwave's Adaptive Messaging solution, a single client user interface provides for cross-messaging capabilities (SMS/MMS/e-mail/mobile IM/voicemail) across various client devices. This adds value, as the end user is no longer worried about the receipt of the message by the recipient's handset.

Openwave's messaging solution is also enhanced by additional handset and network technologies, including Openwave® Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System (MIDAS) technology, which allows carriers to develop and update services over the air (OTA), thereby enabling them to provide improved service offerings. Using Openwave's subscriber data management platform, carriers can consolidate subscriber data into a single storage system, which can be utilised to analyse usage patterns of various data applications. Openwave location infrastructure can also enhance the messaging experience by providing local and contextual information.

In addition, a common OSS/BSS will ensure that the risk factor involved in CAPEX/OPEX will be minimal, even if a particular data application does not prove to be a success. Thus, with an IMS-enabled Adaptive Messaging solution, integration of various data applications can be easily obtained. In the near future, this can also lead to the emergence of a converged presence-enabled address book.
