OPENWAVE JAPAN ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF OPENWAVE NETWORKED INTELLIGENT INFORMATION ORGANIZER

Openwave NIIO is a Convenient Messaging Data Management System for the Web 2.0 Age

SHINJUKU, Tokyo - September 26, 2006 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries, today announced the launch of the Openwave® Networked Intelligent Information Organizer (NIIO) - a new product that expands on the features available in conventional Web storage systems, enabling users to manage all their messaging data, including attachments, effectively and conveniently. Part of Openwave's Adaptive Messaging suite of products and solutions, NIIO will be available first to Japan service providers.

Typical Web storage systems require users to identify the format, content and other attributes of stored data for themselves, as well as require the selection of an appropriate folder and manual movement of data. A user who has received a digital photo by email, for example, must select the "Save As" command from a menu, then upload, drag and drop, or perform some other series of operations to save the file to a folder on the Web storage server. Openwave NIIO eliminates the complex steps required by traditional online sharing services to set up a shared environment, such as uploading content, and inviting friends to view the content.

Users of Openwave NIIO manage email that arrives in their mailbox, including attachments, based on file attributes and content, because the automated system enables the filtering and displaying of digital photos, document files, schedules, address books, and any other type of data according to their preferences. With just the click of a mouse, users can store digital photos for later viewing on the Web storage server.

"Individuals are accumulating ever growing volumes of digital data, and the ability to find what you want when you want is crucial to using that data effectively," said Nihon Openwave System's Yuichi Fukushima, director, solutions development. "This means that data storage should be organized by file attributes, but most of us are too busy to devote time to that kind of task. Automated search and filtering are critical to improving user satisfaction. By delivering these features, NIIO accelerates the distribution of consumer generated media (CGM), which is ever important in the Web 2.0 era."

Openwave NIIO, used in combination with Openwave® Rich Mail, an AJAX compatible webmail system already on the market, offers added convenience compared to a traditional Web storage system and includes the following features and benefits:
  • Easy-to-use, AJAX-compatible browser application that allows users to find the data they are looking for by simply using a mouse, with no additional registration necessary
  • High-speed search technology that allows users to instantaneously sort by file attributes such as attachment type, keywords in the message body, date and sender address
  • Extensible data detection defined by the operator to recognize topics like meeting times or shared music playlists facilitating offers to buy music, ringtones or other premium content
  • Automatic creation of online community environments based on users' existing social networks as defined by their messaging interactions.
Openwave leads the industry with its IP-based messaging framework; its suite of IP-based messaging products and solutions are designed to address communication service providers' needs for a new class of adaptive messaging services that help them address convergence across landline, mobile and broadband networks.

In addition to NIIO and Rich Mail, Openwave's roster of messaging products includes: Openwave Network Address Book, Email Mx, Voicemail, Video Voicemail, Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC), Edge Gx Anti Abuse, Outreach Express, and SMS, EMS and MMS clients.
