  OPENWAVE ACQUIRES WIDERWEB

Acquisition Brings Additional Open Internet Browsing Support to Openwave's Mobile Gateway Offering

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - February 20, 2007 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of WiderWeb Limited, a leading developer of mobile web access solutions. The acquisition provides Openwave with an open internet browsing solution that re-formats web content for mobile phones in a highly optimized, compressed and standards-based XHTML/MP format, opening up access to the entire Internet on mass market mobile devices. The purchase consideration consists of $5M in cash and a potential $4M contingent earn-out. The acquisition is not anticipated to have a material effect on Openwave's fiscal 2007 financial results.

"It is imperative that mobile operators and content providers ensure they are properly positioned to leverage off-net opportunities," said Peter Galvin, senior vice president of products and marketing, Openwave. "The content reformatting technology from WiderWeb can dramatically improve the user experience when accessing Internet content on mass market mobile devices. This acquisition, along with our recent announcement of Openwave® MediaCast, supports our customers in delivering a compelling Web 2.0 experience and in deepening the subscriber relationship across all channels."

WiderWeb technology will be integrated into Openwave's mobile gateway infrastructure, which is designed to enable operators to offer consumers a broader range of content choices by delivering full Internet web pages in a user friendly and device intelligent format to mobile data-enabled devices. Both operators and content providers can rapidly deliver a cost effective optimized experience to the mobile Internet. Openwave is also working with operators to monetize off-net content with the Openwave® Contextual Merchandising solution.
