  Openwave® Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System (MIDAS) helps mobile operators rapidly develop and deploy rich data services and user interfaces, turning mass market phones into more powerful devices.

 

  MIDAS is a scripted application environment that gives mobile operators the power to create and deploy customized data services and compelling user interfaces integrated into the handsets. MIDAS removes much of the development risk for mobile operators without sacrificing control of their service vision.

MIDAS is built on top of Openwave Phone Suite Version 7 (V7) handset software and uses familiar World Wide Web standards like XHTML, CSS and ECMAScript. It is a flexible application framework that allows operators to create, customize and deploy new data services and interfaces quickly, "over the air."

The mobile data services created in the MIDAS environment can be micro-customized to specific subscriber segments. The result is an integrated and personal user experience that accelerates usage and ultimately ARPU.

Fast Time to Market
 
In the current environment, handset OEMs develop native applications for a wide array of platforms. Launching new mobile applications can be costly and time consuming, especially when those applications need to be embedded on a new phone model. Because new MIDAS applications can be delivered "over the air," they can be developed and in the hands of the consumer in a fraction of the time. It's the most cost-effective way to deploy next-generation data services to existing mass market devices, maximizing service reach and allowing for easy aftermarket updating.

Seamless Integration
 
Openwave strives to make mobile data services as prevalent and easy to use as voice services. The biggest barrier preventing widespread data service adoption is a poor user experience -- confusing interfaces and long wait times. MIDAS is integrated into the device so that when operators launch new applications and interfaces, they look, feel and operate as if they were native to the handset.

MIDAS enables content to be pushed to the phone's idle screen, creating a zero-click user experience that makes it easy for subscribers to discover relevant services and content. In addition, MIDAS unlocks the potential of native device software by enabling secure access to native applications such as the camera, calendar and address book.

Micro-Customized Services
 
With such a reduced time to market, operators have the freedom and flexibility to cost-effectively experiment with new services and then target subscribers with highly customized applications without having to rework native applications for each handset platform.

Maintain Service Vision
 
Operators who rely on third-party developers run the risk of losing control of their service vision. MIDAS's lightweight scripted environment grants a level of flexibility to let an operator to meet its unique service vision without sacrificing control. Applications can be written once and quickly deployed to multiple devices faster, at lower cost and with less schedule risk to the operator.
