Openwave® Passport
Openwave Passport helps mobile operators tap into new revenue streams by enabling them to offer their subscribers pay-as-you-go accesss and targeted data service promotions.
Faster networks and the introduction of high-end touch-sensitive mobile devices have all helped increase mobile data usage, specifically mobile internet traffic. Openwave Passport lets mobile operators capitalize on this trend through a range of personalized services and access options.
Attracting New Data Users
Passport lets the operator offer its subscribers the flexibility of pay-as-you-go access to the mobile web and a range of data services. Not only do users choose how long they wish to access the web, but payment is simple. A single click debits a subscriber's account, or in the case of a prepaid subscribers, it is deducted from outstanding credit.
This type of personalized, time-based access options (e.g. day-, hour- and week-passes) access can attract new data users, including prepaid, roaming and visiting subscribers who may not wish to sign up for contract-based data access plans. It is also a way to market value-added services to such users.
Time-based access encourages the ad-hoc purchasing of items without the fear of incurring an unwanted expenditure on the download bandwidth (e.g. $2 for a song, but $10 for the download). Evidence has shown that users are likely to spend more money on operator-owned content while accessing the internet during their browsing session.
New Service Discovery
Passport gives mobile operators the opportunity to promote new and existing value-added services. Once a subscriber starts browsing (even for the first time), the operator can target them based on personal profile information or the type of content being accessed at the time. Passport lets subscribers discover and sample these new services without making them feel trapped in a contract that doesn't fit their online behavior.
The operator might for example offer a trial period of free data access or a discount if the subscriber opts to receive advertisements while browsing. In this way, Passport gives the operator a low cost way of marketing and trialing new service offerings to its customer base.
Targeted Mobile Advertising
Passport along with Openwave's
Mobile Advertising Solution
allows the operator to offer mobile advertising. The mobile pages generated by Passport to show information sign up subscribers contain space to insert advertisements. This is a powerful means of offering targeted advertising without infringing on the user's personal choice. In addition, Passport can offer the user the option of signing up to receive mobile advertisements in exchange for a discount on access (e.g. 30% off a day-pass).
